Railway carriage factory to be set up at Syedpur Railway workshop

For the first time in Bangladesh, the carriage factory will be constructed separately to create new and modern coaches at Syedpur railway workshop. New coaches can be built in this factory, so no more coaches are needed to bring from abroad.

Last Friday (Dec. 23), the acting divisional engineer of the Syedpur Railway workshop, Joydul Islam told barta24.com about this.

Regarding the construction of the carriage factory, Joydul Islam said the carriage factory would be built on 20 acres land with the help of Indian credit. The project is currently underway.

He said a place has been selected at Syedpur Railway Factory. This carriage factory will be built there. When the factory is built we can make all kinds of modern coaches ourselves. Through this I will be able to meet our domestic needs. At the same time, there will be no need to import coaches from abroad.

"We have the ability to make coaches in the country," said the divisional engineer. Due to lack of sufficient manpower and required budget, there are some problems at present. By building new carriage factory and increasing the budget and manpower as per requirement, the capacity of coaches to build and repair will increase manifold.

Regarding the modernization of the Syedpur factory, engineer Joydul Islam said that for the first time a biometric hajira system has been introduced in the factory. Besides, modern machines are being brought from abroad for repair of coaches.

The project has been taken up to convert Syedpur Railway factory in the same state as the railway factory abroad. We hired a consultant for that. The feasibility study has already been sent to the railway ministry.

Contextually, new coaches are being imported from abroad to provide modern rail services to passengers. Imported new coaches include a 20 meter gauge coach. Under the import project, coaches are being imported from Indonesia in several phases.

Earlier, six broad gauge coaches were imported from Indonesia. Besides, coaches were also imported from neighboring India. These coaches are operating on different routes. Each meter gauge coach imported from Indonesia was worth Tk 1.5 crore.

Therefore, when the modern coach building factory will be set up in the country; there will be no need to import coaches from abroad. Moreover, a large amount of money will be saved in terms of foreign currency. Railway workshop authorities said that they have all kinds of capabilities to build coaches. With the benefit of money and manpower, modern coaches can be made in the country.
