Taposh AL candidate for South, Atiqul for North
Lawmaker for Dhanmondi Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh has secured ruling Awami League's ticket for Dhaka South and incumbent Mayor Atiqul Islam for North to run for mayor in the city corporation election slated for January 30.
Party General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names at a press conference at Awami League President's political office at Dhanmondi on Sunday (29).
Quader said the candidates have been chosen at the local government nomination board at the instruction of party chief Sheikh Hasina.
He said the background, popularity, acceptability and possibility of win of the nomination seekers have been considered while finally selecting the candidates.
Awami League presidium members Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Organising Secretary SM Kamal Hossain were present at the press meet, among others.
Taposh is the son of Jubo League founder Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, cousin of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. His elder brother Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash has been elected chairman of Jubo League in its last congress held in November.
