The Returning Officer (RO) of upcoming DSCC polls has declared that all the seven nomination papers were found valid after securitization for the mayoral race. After scrutiny RO gave the validity of the filed nomination papers.
On Thursday (Jan.2)the RO Md. Abdul Baten gave this declaration at his temporarily election office at Sadeq Hossain Khoka community center, Gopibag.
The contesting candidates are Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of Awami League, Ishraq Hossain of BNP, Saifuddin Ahmed Milon of JP, Md. Abdur Rahman of Islami Andolon, Md. Akhtaruzzaman Ayatullah of Bangladesh Congress, Baharane Sultan Bahar of NPP and Abdus Samad Sujan of Gonoforum.
It may be mentioned here 7 filed nomination papers for mayoral post, 460 for general councilor and 102 filed for reserved councilor posts.
According to the poll schedule announced by EC the last date of filing nomination papers was December 31, scrutiny on January 2. While the withdrawal date has been fixed on January 9, symbol will be allotted on January 10. Voting will be held on January 30.
