The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Returning Officer(RO) to serve show cause notice to Awami League mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam for DNCC for violating election code of conduct.
Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam told reporters at his office in Agargaon on Sunday (Jan.5).
When he was asked what action he had taken against the AL backed candidate Atiqul Islam for the allegation brought by BNP-backed mayoral candidate Tabitha Awal alleging violation of election code of conduct. he informed, "I have told the RO that he should be not be show cause and asked to know why such incident had happened. Why action will not be taken him.
Regarding the violation of the rules of conduct of the candidates, he said, "If any body becomes a candidate then the election code of conduct is applicable. So far there has been no candidate. The candidate will be on the day the symbol is allotted. From that day on, we can apply to the candidate. I will tell the RO that whoever violates the law, take action.”
He also said, "The part of the code of conduct applicable to the candidate can be applied after being a candidate." And the part of the code of conduct before becoming a candidate is that it is primarily applicable to political parties. Because they gave the nomination. Whatever is in the law in that regard, I must tell the RO to take action against them. Besides, to bring out procession, campaigning blocking the road, I will tell the RO to take action against him.
