Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal hoped that the mystery of the rape of the Dhaka University student (DU) will be revealed soon in Kurmitola of the capital.

He said, “Crime is gradually decreasing across Bangladesh. But crime has not decreased to that level as our expectation. Earlier, I was successful in socializing the problem of eveteasing. We have received good response by waging movement against acid terror. I think we need to build a social movement against rape.”

The home minister brushed aside the BNP’s claim that the government has failed he said “Women could not thin about leaving the house after 10 pm when the BNP was in power. Now women can roam outside all the night. No one bothers. But it was a nightmare for the last 10-11 years. The country is moving forward, society is moving forward. But the BNP could not cover their failure till now. That is why they are putting blame on us."

Earlier, around 10 pm, a memorandum containing the four-point demand was handed over to the home minister under the leadership of AGS Saddam Hussein of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU).

It is alleged that the DU student was allegedly raped at Kurmitola in the capital around 7pm on Sunday (Jan. 5).
