The candidates and supporters of the two city corporation elections in Dhaka cannot be arrested without any previous arrest warrant of the court, said Election Commission senior secretary Md. Alamgir.
He told this to reporters at his office on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at noon.
He said that the Commission took decision on Monday (Jasn.6) about it and accordingly I talked to the DMP Commissioner today. However, the police will do the needful for any new criminal offence and order of the court to protect the life and property of the people. Perhaps we will have a meeting with law enforcing agencies on the next January 22, then they will be given more guidance.
He added that the journalists will be given ID cards and car stickers. Journalists can do everything according to the code of conduct. They are free to enter the center without secret rooms. In this case, journalists cannot be barred. Polling officers, candidates, agents, and others can speak to the journalists. A decision has been made in this regard.
