Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said that EVM is the only way where only real voter can cast his vote. There is no chance of stealing the ballot. One can only vote once.

He said this after a law and order meeting held on Wednesday (Jan. 8) at the Chittagong-8 constituency by-election. The meeting was held at the Chittagong Circuit House.

The CEC said there are many allegations that have no basis. Of course a fair election will be held. We have introduced EVM so that elections are fair so that there is no rigging or ballot stripping.

He said that a voter can vote in EVM using any of the four ways: fingerprint, smart card, voter number and previous NID.

Brushing aside the allegation that presiding officers have 25 percent of the vote in the EVM system, the CEC said the allegations were like looking pictures on the moon. There is nothing written in the election rules that holds one percent of the vote in the hands of the presiding officers.

The meeting chaired by Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Mannan it was attended by EC Secretariat Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman as the special guest. Among others Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Md. Elias Hossain and Regional Election Hasanuzzaman were present.
