BIWTA has suspended all ferry operations on Shimulia – Kathalbari route due to dense fog.
On Tuesday (Jan.14) the authority stopped the ferry operation at 10 p.m.
Due to dense fog six ferries have been stranded at different points of river Padma causing immense sufferings to the hundreds of passengers of the buses.
Deputy General Manager of BIWTC Shimulia ghat Shafiq Ahmed said that to avoid marine accidents in this channel because of the poor visibility signal light the ferry operations have been kept suspended. Under these circumstances six ferries have been anchored at the different points of the river.
He further said that when the fog diminishes on Wednesday morning the ferry operation will be normal. At this moment about 400 various types of vehicles are stranded at the ghat area. These include ambulances, small vehicles and vegetable laden trucks.
