‘First e-passport holders will be President & Prime Minister’- Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the country's first e-passport holders.

He told reporters at a press briefing on the inauguration of e-passport building and e-passport program in the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Sunday (Jan.19).

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate e-passport and automatic border control arrangements with greater security features at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on January 22 morning. The first e-passport will be received by President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"We hope the police verification will be a lot easier through this," he said. Police verification of passport will be online. When we understand that we need to make verification in advance when needed. This is called pre-verification. If the verification is done by own initiatives, the problem will be reduced. At Uttara Personalization Complex 500 passports will be printed in an hour while 25 thousand can be printed in shift. This program will be launched at 72 Regional and Divisional offices across the country and in 80 foreign missions of Bangladesh by 2021 in phases.
