Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today launched the much-awaited electronic passport (e-passport) along with the automated border control management program, saying that it (e-passport) is a gift for the nation in the “Mujib Barsho”.
We’re handing over the e-passport to the people of the country in ‘Mujib Barsho’, the special year, coinciding the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” she told the inaugural function of the e-passport and automated border control management program at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here this morning.
Earlier the first two e-passports were prepared for the President M. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Premier said that the introduction of e-passport in Bangladesh is the first among the South Asian countries. Actually in 1996 we took the program but the successive government dropped the project. However, our present government has revived all projects for the advancements of Bangladesh. Meanwhile we have brought the whole country under internet facilities, she added.
