Employers and job seekers re-union in East Delta

A day long Spectacular ‘Placement Day 2020’ organized by East Delta University(RDU) was held with the participation of 3,000 job seeker youths and 30 local and foreign employers’. The employers also took direct written and oral examinations of more than 300 applicants in various institutions, which is about 10 percent of the total participants.

The day-long job fair was held on Saturday, January 25, with the help of Seth Properties and KSRM to help youngsters in Chittagong build a career. East Delta organized first such fair in any university in Chittagong.

The keynote speaker, Kazi Monirul Kabir, a former country manager at Google, said that people often become addicted to life. Even though there are many to give guidance, at the end of the day, you have to find your own path. Even though EDU arranges placement days, you have to make your own placement to qualify for a job.

Special Guest Junkos Consulting Co-Founder, Robi Corporate and former Head of People Affairs Motiul Islam Nowshad said the students and the people associated with them improve when the university is developed. When people are developed, the country improves. Every step of ours, every role plays the history and future of the country.

Guest of honor Saeed Al Noman of the program said that the event was aimed at helping the talented people of Chittagong to get a career out of the boundaries of regionalism, including in Dhaka. EDU is developing a student who can lead the industry in the future by training on Soft Skill, Emotional Intelligence and Data Analytics. Through this Placement Day, we have opened this door for everyone in Chittagong so that the manpower of the region can be developed to suit the current job market. As a university, we consider it as a responsibility.

EDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md. Sikandar Khan was the chief guest in the event. He said East Delta University shall have to be introduced in the international arena. It is through this university that the people of Chittagong and Bangladesh can know the world. It is the responsibility of the students.

The purpose of this program is to bring 30 local and foreign companies operating in Bangladesh under one roof and help establish direct communication between the employers and the job seekers. Besides, there was a day-long seminar on various aspects of career formation.

Prominent and noteworthy companies participating in this were Seth Properties, KSRM, Terracotta, BSRM, MGH, Grameen Phone, Pacific Jeans, Robi, Confidence Cement, Epic Properties, Elite Paint, The City Bank Limited, Kenpark and Regency, Flobel academy, Pitupi  Rangs FC Properties, Midas Safety, CPDL, Vivo, Akash DTH (Beximco Group), Mamata, IDP, Talent Management, BYLC and Leeds Bangladesh.

The digital partner of the festival was the Prothom Aloe.com and television media partner was Ekattor TV while food partner was Terracotta.

It was chaired by Professor Samus Ud-Doha, treasurer of the EDU. Shafayat Kabir Chowdhury, Director of Networking and Placement Cell of EDU, gave the welcome address. Ekushey TV bureau chief journalist Rafiqul Bahar spoke. Naveed Mahboob former CEO of IBM, who later on participated in the panel discussion.

Organizations took CVs to recruit them in various positions and arranged direct interviews and written tests. In addition, visitors can learn about the information and facilities needed for employment in organizations. Participants were also told about their internship.

In addition to this, skilled and experienced people working in the industry took part in the consultation and directional panel discussion on what skills the companies are currently expecting in terms of employment. Among them were Fahmina Asad, senior manager of BSRM's Talent Acquisition, Heidelberg Cement's Head of HR Md. Alamgir, Midas Safety HR Manager Atanu Gupta, Reckitt Benkisar, Bangaldesh HRBP Abed-ur-Rashid Chowdhury, Robi Axiata Enterprise Business solution VP Rezwan al-Islam, Elite Paint HR senior GM Murad Hussain, BSRM's HRBP manufacturing manager Muhammad Ismail and WMGS Services Functional Head Shahabuddin Muhammad Sagir.

The City Bank, Robi and Grameen Phone operated separate carrier sessions. In addition, Shakib Bin Rashid, deputy manager of the BRAC Education Program and Chief Strategist at Ten Minute School, conducted a session titled 'Career Talk'.
