Two day information fair begins in Faridpur

A two day information fair with the object creating awareness among the people about Right to Information Act has begun here on Wednesday (Jan.29) afternoon at local Ambica memorial ground.

The fair with the patronization of Transparency International Bangladesh(TIB), Faridpur chapter was jointly organized by Sacheton Nagrik Committee (SANAK), Faridpur unit and Faridpur district administration.

The inaugural function was chaired by ADC(Gen) of Faridpur Rokhsana Rahman was attended by Deputy Commissioner(DC) of Faridpur Atul Sarkar while Additional Police Super Jamal Pasha and Rajendra College Principal Prof. Mosharraf Ali were the special guests. The inaugural session was also addressed by SANAK representative Prof. Altaf Hossain and TIB program manager Abdur Rahman.

Speakers observed that the government framed Right to Information Act is still unknown to common people. Speakers said that it is the right of the people to know about the activities of the government and non-government agencies. But the people are not aware of the Act.

Similarly the designated persons who are supposed to disseminate information to the people mostly not interested to supply information.

The chief guest DC Atul Sarakr in his speech said that the motto of the present government is to bring changes in all spheres of life by
eliminating corruption with the object of ensuring building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

Referring to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who had just started a social war against corruption but could
not finish it for his unfortunate death, Atul Sarkar said. He further said that our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina showing zero tolerance to corruption is supposed to fulfill the unfulfilled dream of Bangabandhu. DC called upon the government officials to come forward in this direction to make this country happy and prosperous Bangladesh. He added that this fair will go a long way to inform the people about Right to Information.

28 government department stalls and 12 private organizations stalls have been set up in the fair. Arrangements of seminar and cultural functions have been arranged in the fair.
