‘Modern journalism is not possible without technology’ – Golam Rahman

From Cumilla: Former professor of Mass Media and Journalism of Dhaka University and former Chief Information Commissioner of the National Information Commission Dr. Md. Ghulam Rahman said that modern journalism is not possible without the use of technology.

"There should have a specific goal of training in journalism," he said. Today, the practice of ethical journalism faces many challenges. Students can create media content. Meanwhile, the institutional attitude towards women journalists has to be changed. We note that in recent media studies, journalists do not place as much emphasis on the teaching of morality. '

He said this at a conference on 'Networking Conference on Journalism Education Connecting to the Professionals' organized at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) auditorium at Mainamati on Sunday (Feb. 2).

The conference was jointly organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Cumilla University and Deutsche Valley Academy, Germany.

During one plenary session and two technical sessions, the discussants discussed the current status and future of the media in Bangladesh.

Assistant Professor of Mass Media Studies and Journalism of the University of Liberal Arts. Dr. Abdul Kabil Khan talked about the use, technique and application of mobile journalism.

He emphasized on various aspects of creating, taking and editing the content of mobile journalism. "The first three seconds of any video content are particularly important in editing," he said. In addition, the content or size of the text should be taken into account. A video story meant at least six shots. Journalists also need to know how to upload videos properly. '

It was attended by Mahmud Menon Khan, executive editor of Sarabangla.com, and Shimul Sultana, the Output Editor of the online multimedia barta24.com including leading mass media personnel of the country and teachers of mass media.

Deutsche Valley Academy's Policy and Concept Expert Udo Prenzel conducted the program. The discussants were Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, Dr. Abdul Kabil Khan, Professor Jude W. Zenilo,  chairman of the Department of Media and Journalism, University of Liberal Arts. Zulfiqar Ali Manik, Special Correspondent of  The New York Times and Consultant for Baishakhi TV, Zulfiqar Ali Manik, Former Prothom Alo News Editor Shahed Mohammed Ali, Dataful Project Lead Palash Dutt, DW Academy Consultant Olga Kiselman were present. Speakers discussed in detail the use of technology in 'mobile journalism' and use of technology in journalism. The main object of the event is to build a good relationship between the mass media teachers and the professional people.

Although the VC of Cumilla University Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury was supposed to attend the last session of the conference as the chief guest but he failed to turn up. At the ending session a pleasant cultural show was held.
