Mymensingh: After a long wait, ‘Cathlab’ facilities through which setting of ring or stenting and other related cardiac treatments are done is scheduled to be inaugurated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on February 15.

However, there have been allegations that a quarter is pressurizing the hospital director on the issue of 'chief guest' for the inauguration. But now uncertainty looms large on the scheduled inauguration.

On Monday (Feb. 3) Brigadier General Nasir Uddin Ahmed, the director of MMC Hospital, gave a status on his Facebook wall, expressing his uncertainness on inauguration. After that the discussion about the matter has begun. But who wants to be the chief guest, his name is not mentioned in the status.

Brigadier General Nasir Uddin Ahmed wrote at the beginning of the status, "Although the Cathlab is scheduled to be launched on February 15, a quarter is creating obstacles and problems to make a leader as chief guest. I never desired to be the chief guest or inaugurator anywhere in four years three months. If I work for the people I do not need any recognition or respect.'

After giving the status, many people wanted to know the name of the chief guest in the comment box. Many have taken courage to vow to be on the director’s side.

It is known that if the blood vessels inside the artery are reduced or stopped, a ring or cardiac stent is to be placed through the catheter device through ballooning process.

Hospital sources said cardiologists can directly see how the heart's blood vessels flow through the cathlab machine, and can activate blood vessels through closed balloons and rings (stents) as needed. With this, patients with heart block are able to live a normal life again.

According to the source, the government fee, the patient will have to pay the cost of the balloon, stent, catheter and other materials required to wear the ring or stent. The price list will be given in the cardiology department. Apart from this, the work of establishing a Temporary pacemaker and Permanent pacemaker will also be done at the government price. However, poor patients will be provided with free angiograms and stents for free.

People from six districts of greater Mymensingh as well as parts of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kurigram and Gazipur get medical services here. On average, 170 to 180 patients are admitted to the hospital's 20-bed cardiovascular department. But patients are being denied full treatment due to the absence of a cathlab machine. However, if the sophisticated Cathlab is introduced, the sufferings of the patients will be largely reduced.
