Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader has said that 77 percent work of the dream Padma bridge is now complete adding that there will be some problem if the Chinese engaged in the bridge construction do not return to Bangladesh within next two months.
He told the journalists after a meeting on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at his secretariat office with the heads of departments and project directors to review the progress of ongoing development projects and providing citizen services.
He said that so far 23 spans have been installed at the Padma Bridge. The number 24 span will also be set on the 10th of this month. Although there is still to be any problem due to the absence of the Chinese till now, it will be problem if their absence exceeds two months.
He added that in July next, if there was no difficulty, I planned to put all the spans on the piles. There are 980 Chinese nationals working on the Padma Bridge project. Of them 332 had gone to their country to celebrate New Years in China. 33 have returned, of which 8 were free from Coronavirus ailment but the rest are under observation.
