The International Migration Agency (IOM) and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will be on the side of those killed and injured in a fishing trawler accident in St. Martin of Cox's Bazaar. They are ready to come forward with food, shelter, treatment or any assistance.
The IOM and UNHCR said in a press message on Tuesday (Feb. 11) afternoon. Irregular and unsafe voyage in Cox's Bazar is not a new phenomenon, the press message said.
It was also informed through that IOM, UNHCR, all other UN’s branch organizations and Ngos are deeply shocked at this tragic accident.
The press release said both Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi people are at risk of suffering under various circumstances. Both the UN and the Bangladesh government have been working to increase awareness among the people considering unsafe travel by sea.
We are also working with law and order agencies to prevent human trafficking and to protect people from the risk of maritime accident. There are various assistances in Cox's Bazar district for those rescued from human trafficking.
The fishing trawler that met the tragic accident left for Malaysia on Monday (Feb. 10) night with 120 Rohingya people from coast of Teknaf's Noakhalipara. Then on Tuesday morning it reached to the coast of St. Martin channel and got capsized. The Coast Guard later recovered the body of 15 Rohingyas. 72 were rescued alive.
