Language brings them so closer on February 21 at Jashore
Same sky, same air, The language of the two Bengals is also same. Therefore, on the 21st February, the people of both Bengals became united over the emotion of scarifying lives by the language martyrs.
On Friday (February 21), Bangla speaking people of two Bengals celebrated the martyrdom of the of language heroes on the ‘Shaheed Dibash’ and International Mothers’ Language Day. Indians and Bangladeshis paid rich tributes to the martyrs killed in great language movement on February 21 of 1952.
At 11am, hundreds of Bangla-speaking people from India, led by the Minister of Food and Supplies of the West Bengal State Government, Sri Jyoti Priyo Mallik and Bangaon Municipal Mayor Shankar Ayer, sprinkled the flowers on the Bangladeshis and exchange greetings with sweet meats.
On the occasion a temporary Shahi8d Minar was set up at the No-Man's Land. the West Bengal Minister of Food and Supplies Sri Jyotipriya Mallick, Shankar Ayar, Mayor of Bangaon Municipality and a number of Indian leaders paid homage to the language martyrs placing floral wreaths.
Swapan Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry of Bangladesh, Sheikh Afil Uddin, MP of Jashore-1 constituency, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Shafiul Arif, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ashraf Hossain PPM, 49 BGB Battalion Commander Colonel Selim Reza, district Awami League president Shahidul Islam Milon, general secretary Shahin Chakladar, acting director of Benapole land port Abdul Jalil, upazila nirbahi officer Pulak Kumar Mondal among others were present on the occasion.
The convener of the Ekush Utjapann Parishad Upazila chairman Sirajul Islam Manju, the general secretary of the Upazila Awami League and the member-secretary of the Ekush Utjapan Parishad Md. Nuruzzaman were also present.
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) greeted the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) with flowers at the Language Day Meeting venue. Then the national flag of the two countries were hoisted jointly by thousands of Bangla speaking people of the two countries. Forgetting the geographical boundaries, only people from two Bengals sang the great sing Banglar Joygan on the same stage.
This year, the International Mothers’ Language Day Celebration Committee organized a separate program for the two Bengals. Two 'Ekushey Stages' were set up in front of the International Passenger Terminal building on one side and at the Export Terminal building of the Petrapole of India. Artists from Bangladesh and India sitting on the stages and perform cultural events.
Thousands of language-loving people gathered around the event. The voices of the leaders were expected to celebrate one and the other events on the stage even bigger in the future. Various social, cultural organizations of both countries participated spontaneously.
Guests of the two countries this time decorated seven meritorious persons with friendship medals. The recipients were Fakhre Alam, Special Correspondent of the Bangladeshi daily Kaler Kantha, Poet Mukti Basu of West Bengal, Social activist Karthik Dutt, Bangladeshi politician Azgar Ali Mian, politician Minhaj Uddin, educationist Shantipad Biswas and tree-lover Abdul Wahed Sardar
