Mobile operator Grameenphone (GP) handed over a pay order amounting to Taka 1000 crore on Sunday (Feb.23) to the Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission(BTRC) against the demand of the state authority. The operator paid the money in accordance with the judgment of the Appellate Division on Grameenphone's review application.

Grameenphone authorities handed over a pay order of Taka 1,000 crore to the BTRC authorities on Sunday (February 23) at a press conference at BTRC.

BTRC chairman Zahurul Haque said at the press conference today is a good day for the government and the Grameenphone. Grameenphone has gone to various places for bargain, but we could not do any thing as it was the state money. It was a court order. It is our duty to obey the orders of the Supreme Court. Thanks to Grameenphone for giving the money.

Regarding different sanctions on Grameenphone, he said there were some suspensions. There is a court order, the court will order. I will take action as per the order of the court regarding the suspensions.

In a press release last Friday (Feb. 21), the operator said, Grameenphone respects Bangladesh's legal system. However, they expect the court's protection against the pressure imposed by the BTRC.

Earlier, the BTRC chairman Zahurul Haque told reporters, I don't think there is any other place for Grameenphone to go without paying. That is why I think they will pay the money this time.

If they do not give the money, they will go for appointing administrator in Grameenphone after Monday (Feb.24) according to the law.
