Dhaka University has decided not to participate in the uniform admission test following the path of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) and Chattogram University. Simultaneously it was decided by the DU authority to suspend the evening courses temporarily.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Academic Council at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building on Monday (Feb.24) afternoon. Several members of the Academic Council have confirmed the information to barta24.com.

It was further informed that a final decision on the matter would be taken at the university's syndicate meeting on Tuesday (Feb.25). The meeting decided to formulate a comprehensive policy on evening courses of the university. It has been decided to temporarily close all irregular courses including evening courses until the policy is finalized.

It may be mentioned here the University Grants Commission (UGC) had been insisting the public universities of the country to hold uniform admission tests at a time to ease the sufferings of the admission seekers as well as to lessen the pressure of expenditure on the guardians. This year UGC took the initiatives seriously. But their insistence proved futile as BUET, Chattogram and Dhaka universities finally backtracked.
