The body of Majed, one of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been handed over to his wife Saleha Begum after the execution.
A dead body carrying ambulance came out from inside the jail at 3.30pm on the following night of Saturday (April 11).
It was first decided that Abdul Majed's body would be taken to Borhanuddin of Bhola. But in the face of strong objection from the locals for the burial of Majed, Bhola district administration did not agree to take any risk. So time was taken to make the decision till late night.
The final decision came as the body of Majed from Dhaka Central Jail will be taken to his father-in-law’s house at Sonargaon of Narayanganj. He will be buried there.
The dead body carrying ambulance came out of the jail at 3:30 am. At this time, relatives of Majed, along with his wife in a white-colored private car followed the ambulance.
Majed's wife and some relatives arrived at the gate at 12:18 am. Police helped them to get them out of the car. Then they walked in and entered the prison. However, sources confirmed that two men and two women had gone to the place of transfer of the body.
Majed, who has been absconding for 23 years, was arrested from Mirpur at midnight on April 6, and was arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police.
He was later produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka. The court then sent him to jail.
The District Session court issued a warrant of his death last Thursday(April 9). Majed sought clemency of the President of the Republic of Bangladesh which was turned down by President Md. Abdul Hamid.
It is to be mentioned here that on August 15, 1975, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with his family by 12 assassins including Abdul Majed.
