Brief function on Mujibnagar day

Due to the prevailing situation arising out of the coronavirus the historic Mujibnagar Day on tomorrow Friday (April 17) has been summarized

Every year on this day, the day of oath taking ceremony by the first exile government of Bangladesh was being celebrated under the mango grove with festivity. This time, with the sunrise on behalf of the state, the Liberation War ministry and Meherpur district administration will celebrate the day through with 31 gun- salute, hoisting of national flag and placing of floral wreaths at the Memorial plaque.

The Meherpur district administration has released the program schedule through digital medium quoting the Liberation War ministry.

In this connection Deputy Commissioner of Maherpur Ataul Ghani informed that a short program was arranged in accordance with the Prime Minister's directive due to coronavirus outbreak. There will be no discussion meetings and rallies. People have been requested not to come from any other district to avoid rallies and gatherings.

On April 17, 1971 the first government of Bangladesh was sworn in at Vaidyanathtala later named Mujibnagar in Meherpur. This government under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, won the war. In order to preserve the various memories of the War of Liberation, a memorial complex has been constructed at Mujibnagar at the place of oath, the map of Bangladesh in the liberation war complex along with murals of important people of the war of liberation including the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu. Visitors from all over the country come here all year long.
