Biggest registered company GP to hold on line AGM

For the first time in the country, Grameenphone (GP), the largest registered company in the country, is going to hold online annual general meeting(AGM).

The annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday (April 21). The board of directors will be connected in the meeting via online platform from inside and outside the country. Moreover, 32 thousand share holders will be connected from their houses.

Grameenphone decided to do online AGM to prevent coronavirus infection. On April 22, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited (BATBC) will be holding their AGM in a similar way.

Due to the corona situation, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has issued instructions to hold AGMs, special general meetings (EGMs) and board meetings of listed companies, avoiding personal presence. In view of this, two multinational companies of the country took initiative to organize AGM using online medium.

Regarding the issue, Grameenphone Director and Head of Regulatory Affairs Hossain Sadat said, the task of bringing so many people to an online platform is very complicated and they are eagerly waiting to see how it works.

Passwords have already been sent to 32,000 shareholders via e-mail. Sadat said that anyone from anywhere can login by joining online. The AGM will start at 10.30 am. It will continue till half past twelve.

The Board of Directors of Grameenphone has recommended to pay 40% cash dividend to the shareholders for the financial year ended December 31, 2019. Dividends, audited financial reports and other agendas will be picked up at the AGM for review and approval.

In 2019, Grameenphone's revenue has increased by 8.1 percent. At this time, their income was Taka 14370 crore.  And the neat profit was Taka 3450 crore while in the previous fiscal which was Taka 3515 crore.
