Budget session of current fiscal begins on June 10

The eighth (budget) session of the current parliament will begin on June 10. Empowered by the constitution President Abdul Hamid has convened the parliament session at 5 pm on that day, according to a notification from the Parliament Secretariat on Monday (May 18) night.

According to sources, the next session will be the second budget session of the current parliament. The session starts in the first week of June every year but this time it is starting after one week due to corona situation. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will present the budget proposal for the next fiscal year 2020-2021 in the June 11 parliamentary session. It will be passed on June 30 after discussion in the parliament.

Officials of the Parliament Secretariat said that due to the corona situation, the session will be shortened this time. For the same reason the last session sat for only one day. The session ended on April 18 in just one and a half hours. Earlier, a special session of parliament convened on March 22 was adjourned.

According to sources, the cabinet meets in the cabinet room of the parliament building every year on the day of placing the budget proposal in the parliament for the approval of the draft budget. Before the start of the session, a cabinet meeting will be held at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, President Abdul Hamid approves the draft budget; it will be tabled in Parliament.
