191 garment workers have been infected from corona

The deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) has infected 191 workers in 90 garment factories in the country.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Industrial Police) Farhad Hossain confirmed the information to media on Friday (May 29).

Under the initiative of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), a large organization of garment factory owners, several teams are working in the garment factories to collect information on corona transmission and provide treatment to the workers. According to the information collected by them, the first person with the symptoms of corona was found in a garment factory on April 26.

According to the latest information, 103 workers of BGMEA member garment factory have been infected with coronavirus so far. Of these, 19 have recovered. The remaining 64 still have Covid-19 positive.

According to BGMEA, coronavirus infection is increasing day by day in the country. In such a situation, if any garment worker is affected by corona, special measures have to be taken to provide quick treatment. A hotline has been set up to provide information on affected workers. Besides, the monitoring system has been strengthened by dividing it into four zones. Besides, the workers who are being affected by Corona and others who come in contact with those workers are also being sent to quarantine on leave. Those who are sicker are being sent to the hospital. The cost is borne by the factory owners.

Meanwhile, according to the latest statistics of the industrial police, 191 garment workers from 90 factories in the country have been affected by corona. Of these, BGMEA members are in 48 factories where 105 workers have been affected. BKMEA members affected 56 people from 21 factories, 14 workers from 10 factories in EPZs and 13 workers from 12 other garment factories.

In addition, two workers belonging to BTMA factories have been infected. An analysis of the statistics of the Industrial Police has shown that Ashulia in Dhaka has the highest number of workers among the garment factories in the country. 61 workers of 28 factories in Ashulia have been infected. In Narayanganj, which is in the next position, 70 workers of 23 factories have been infected. Sixteen workers from 14 garment factories in Chittagong, four workers from three factories in Mymensingh and one worker from a factory in Khulna has been infected with the coronavirus.
