Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all to work at their respective workplaces by following the health code properly to protect themselves from coronavirus, saying that the government thinks most about the welfare of the people.
We don't want the people of the country to suffer, she said. With this in mind, in some cases, we have changed our previous instructions, that is, those that were closed have opened now. Because we have taken this step keeping in view that the people who work hard, eat day by day, the common middle class, the lower class, everyone can continue their life journey and keep it moving. So we all have to work in the workplace while protecting our own health.
The Prime Minister made the remarks at a meeting of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (June 2). The Prime Minister also highlighted the current stagnation of economic activities in the country.
She said there will be no such day. We will be able to move forward by overcoming any obstacle. That's how we all have to work in our own workplaces protecting our health. We think more about the helpless people of the country. Not only Bangladesh but the whole world is stagnant in corona. This problem has appeared everywhere. We are not out of it either. The dynamics of our economy have come to a standstill since the advent of the coronavirus. It is going on not only in Bangladesh but all over the world.
I will tell the countrymen that we want everyone to abide by the health rules that have been given. We do not want the people of our country to suffer. With that in mind, we have reopened what was closed. However, in this case, everyone will follow the hygiene rules in everything including movement.
We have to abide by what is internationally recognized. Let the people of our country be safe. Remember that protecting yourself means protecting others. We will make every effort to protect our families and our colleagues. It will be our decision, she said.
She said that, the way Bangladesh economy was moving forward, we hoped that the birth centenary of Bangabandhu in 2020 or the golden jubilee of independence in 2021, especially in this Mujib year, we would reduce our poverty rate and take Bangladesh to a higher level as a developing country. But because of the Covid-19, that mobility has come to a standstill. But I don't think there will be such a day. We will be able to move forward by overcoming any obstacle. The storm will go soon, she added.
