A team of researchers from Dhaka University (DU) has been able to detect the presence of coronavirus (SARS COV-2) RNA in just 30 to 40 minutes. The Researchers led by Chairman of Biochemistry and Bioscience department of the University Professor Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj have successfully identified the (SARS Cove-2) RNA virus.

This information was been given in a notification sent from the public relations office of the university on Sunday (June 7) evening. It said the researchers followed a rapid colorimetric test process, known as an RT-lamp test kit.

The statement said, the virus detection process can be completed in just 30 to 40 minutes using a simple incubator or heat control device. The test kit was found to be yellow in the case of corona positive samples and pink in the case of negative samples.

Authorities said Department of Biochemistry and Bioscience of DU has already applied to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to test the effectiveness of the kit. The application is accompanied by 'Biotech Concern', a distributor of RT-lamp test kits in Bangladesh.

Authorities said the permission for using the kit would be applied to the Department of Drug Administration if it passed the effectiveness test from BSMMU.
