State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad. Abdullah has passed away. (Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

He breathed his last at 11:45 pm on Saturday (June 13) while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. His personal assistant (APS) Nazmul Haque Saikat confirmed the death to Barta24.com at 12pm.

When Awami League formed government under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after winning the election of December 30, 2018, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was appointed Minister of State for Religious Affairs. Since January 7, 2019, he has been handling one of the most important ministries of the country.

Before becoming the state minister, he was the Religious Affairs Secretary of Awami League.

State Minister for Religion Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for a long time had been acting as the representative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her constituency. On May 7, he was given the responsibility again.

Besides, in all the elections of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her constituency 217, Gopalganj-03 (Tungipara-Kotalipara), Sheikh Abdullah has conducted all the election activities on her behalf as her election agent.

Sheikh Md. Abdullah was born on 8 September 1945 in the village of Kekania situated on the bank of the Madhumati river in Gopalganj district in an aristocratic family. His father was Sheikh Mohammad Matiur Rahman and mother was Mosammat Rabia Khatun. He was the second of four brothers and three sisters.

According to family sources, he had been ill for several days. He had a heart attack on Saturday night and was taken to CMH around 11pm. He had a second heart attack after being taken there. He died soon after.

In the War of Liberation of 1971, Sheikh Md. Abdulla actively took part as a member of Mujib Bahini. He qualified in the BCS examination held in 1973 as a freedom fighter in independent Bangladesh. But instead of going to job he had decided to serve the country through political activities under the leadership of Bangabandhu.
