‘Awami League working for people since its founding’- Sheikh Hasina

Mentioning about the contribution and sacrifice of Awami League in the national life, Prime Minister and the President of the party Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League has spoken for the people, struggled for the people and has been working for the people since its founding.

The Prime Minister made the remarks at an unscheduled discussion on the occasion of the 71st founding anniversary of the Awami League at the Jatiya Sangsad session on Tuesday (June 23).

The 8th session of the Eleventh Parliament began with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the chair at 11-30 am. The Speaker announced that the question and answer have been presented on the table at the beginning of the session.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed an unscheduled discussion on the occasion of the 71st founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League.

Reiterating her commitment to work for the welfare of the people, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said, today, on the founding anniversary of the Awami League, we pledge to build this country as hunger, poverty free golden Bangladesh. I will fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation. We will continue to work for the welfare of the people. This is our pledge to the Father of the Nation today.

The Father of the Nation is not among us physically, she said. But we have to fulfill his desire. His existence is in every nook and corner of ours. At one point she was tried to be erased from history but could not be erased. Truth cannot be erased from history.

Commenting on the Awami League working for the people if it is in power, Sheikh Hasina said the people of Bangladesh got something only when the Awami League came to power.

Expressing hope that Bangladesh will move forward on the path of prosperity by overcoming the coronavirus crisis, she said that people are suffering from coronavirus. Today the Awami League is standing by the people because it is in power. Our Chhatra League, Krishak League and Awami League leaders and workers are standing by the side of the people.

Referring to the independence of Bangladesh under the leadership of Awami League, daughter of Bangabandhu said, today is a very important day for us, so it is important that Bangladesh Awami League raised the sun of independence that set in 1757 when Sirajuddaula fell in the battle of Palassy.

She said that the sun of independence which had set in the desert of Palassy has appeared again in 1971 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Recalling the leaders and activists who gave their lives in various movements, Sheikh Hasina said, I remember the countless leaders and activists of Awami League who laid down their lives. I pray for the emancipation for their souls.

She said that due to the coronavirus crisis, the celebration of the 71st founding anniversary of the Awami League should be limited as the celebration of Mujibbarsha and the celebration should be done online.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary of Awami League, she said, Bangladesh Awami League was established on June 23, 1949. Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani was the President and Shamsul Haque was the founder General Secretary. The then young leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the joint secretary, even though he was in jail at the time. While in prison, he was elected joint secretary.
