Launch capsize in Buriganga- 23 bodies recovered so far

Twenty three dead bodies were recovered so far when a passenger launch capsized on Monday (June 29) morning (9 am) in river Buriganga near capital’s Shyambazar Farasganj area. The launch had more than 100 passengers.

The diving unit of Sadarghat River Fire Station of Fire Service is conducting search operation. Azizul Islam, an official of the Fire Service headquarters confirmed the matter to Barta24.com.

Rozina Akhter, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters told Barta24.com that the fire service diving unit has so far recovered 23 bodies.

It is learned that the Morning Bird launch with at least 50 passengers sank when it was hit by a launch named Mayur-2. It is learned that the accident took place while the Mayur-2 was being lowered into the river after repairs from a dockyard in Keraniganj.

Meanwhile, it is learned that a BIWTA rescue ship has left Narayanganj to take part in the rescue operation.
