Bodies are being handed over to relatives

The Fire Service and Coast Guard have so far recovered the bodies of 32 people, including women and children, in connection with the sinking of a passenger launch in the Buriganga River.

The bodies of 30 of the 32 rescued have been identified. The bodies are being handed over to relatives without an autopsy from Mitford Hospital in the capital's old Dhaka.

Sadarghat River Police Station OC Rezaul Karim Bhuiyan confirmed the death to Barta24.com.

The 30 people whose bodies have been identified so far are- 1. Mizanur Rahman (32), 2. Satya Ranjan Banik (65), 2. 3. Shahidul (61), 4. Sufia Begum (50), 5. Moniruzzaman (42), 6. Subarna Akhter (28), 7. Mukta (12), 8. Golam Hossain Bhuiyan (50), 9. Afzal Sheikh (48), 10. Beauty (36), 11. Chana (35), 12. Amir Hossain (55), 13. Md. Mahim (18), 14. Shahadat (44), 15. Shamim dealer (48), 16. Millat (35), 17. Abu Taher (57), 18. Didar Hossain (45), 19. Hafeez Khatun (38), 20. Sumon Talukder (35), 21. Ayesha Begum (35), 22. Hasina Rahman (40), 23. Alam Bepari (36), 24. Moses. Marufa (26), 25. Shahidul Hossain (40), 26. Talha (2), 27. Ismail Sharif (35), 28. Saiful Islam (42), 29. Tamim and 30. Sumna Akhter.

Meanwhile, besides the Fire Service, personnel of the Navy, Coast Guard, Naval Police and BIWTA are also conducting rescue operations.

It is learned that Sadarghat bound Morning Bird launch with at least 50 passengers on board capsized when it was hit by a launch named Mayur-2 around 9 am on Monday (June 29). It is learned that the accident took place while the Mayur-2 was being lowered into the river after repairs from a dockyard in Keraniganj.
