Buriganga Launch tragedy: Police file cases against seven

Police have filed a case alleging 'negligent death' in the tragic launch sinking incident in Buriganga. Seven people, including the owner of 'Mayur-2' launch, have been accused in this case.

In the early hours of Tuesday (June 30), River Police SI Shamsul Alam as the complainant filed the case with the South Keraniganj Police Station.

The accused in the case are Mosaddek Hanif Soad, owner of Mayur-2 launch, Master Abul Bashar, Master Zakir Hossain, Staff Shipon Hawlader, Shakil Hossain, Hridoy and another technical staff Nasir Mridha.

Meanwhile, South Keraniganj Police Station SI Bachir Uddin said the case has been filed under sections 260, 304 (ka), 337 and 34 of the Penal Code.

An arrest operation is underway against them. However, no arrests have been made so far.

It is learned that the Morning Bird launch with at least 50 passengers sank when it was hit by a launch named Mayur-2 around 9 am on Monday (June 29). It is learned that the accident took place while the Mayur-2 was being lowered into the river after repairs from a dockyard in Keraniganj.
