Seven killed in a road crash in Chakoria

Seven people were killed and two received injuries in an accident occurred due to head-on collision between a Laguna and a covered van at Chakoria on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazaar highway.

The accident took place at Buri Shop Point in North Harbang area of Chakoria on the highway on Wednesday (July 22) afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Badiul Alam, 50, son of Abdul Quader of Natur Bazar area of Chakoria Harbang Union, Al Amin, 48, son of Abdul Azed of Sandwippara, Lama upazila of Bandarban, Minar Uddin, 23, of Amirabad area of Lohagara upazila of Chattogram and Feroz Ahmed (32) son of Ali Mia of Konakhali union.

Chakoria Chiringa Highway police outpost in charge Anisur Rahman said efforts were being made to rescue the two vehicles with a crane soon after the horrific accident. The stranded Laguna passengers were rescued and sent to the Upazilla Health Complex. Along with the highway police, Police and Fire Service personnel also joined the rescue operation. However, it is not yet clear how many people have died.

Doctors on duty at the Upazilaa Health Complex's emergency department said seven people had been pronounced dead at the hospital so far. Two critically injured people were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment after giving them first aid.
