Sharmin Jahan, owner of Aparajita International, has been arrested by the Ramna zone of the Detective Police (DB) on charges of supplying substandard masks. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Azimul Haque of Ramna zone of DB confirmed the matter to Barta24.com.

Mishu Biswas, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB's Ramna zonal team, who led the arrest operation, told Barta24.com that Sharmin Jahan, owner of Aparajita International, was arrested from Shahbagh crossing in the capital around 10pm on Friday (July 24).

Earlier on Friday, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital authorities filed a case against Aparajita International for supplying fake masks.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital Director Brigadier General Zulfiqar Ahmed Amin said, ‘Last Thursday, we filed a case of fraud against Aparajita International at Shahbagh Police Station. They did not provide the masks and gloves according to the specifications given to them.'

He also said that BSMMU's contract with them was automatically canceled.

The BSMMU hospital authorities first gave a notice to the supplier to show cause. Sharmin Jahan, Assistant Registrar of Dhaka University, the proprietor of Aparajita International, gave her answer on Wednesday. She described the matter as undesirable.

In response, the company said it had no intention of supplying fake masks. The masks were delivered to the hospital authorities in the same way that they received in packaged form.

However, they have already withdrawn the masks soon after receiving the allegations.
