Bangladesh police: on way to pro-people policing

Dhaka: ‘We want to bring a fundamental change in Bangladesh Police. If an organization is to survive, it must be dynamic with the passage of time. And this dynamism must be meaningful. '


He said this while addressing senior officials at the Krishnacura conference room of the police headquarters on Saturday (July 25) at noon on the progress made by the police on the 100th day of IGP Dr. Benazir Ahmed.


He said every organization has one or more goals. No goalless organization can move forward. We are currently in 2020. In the next 5, 10, 50 and 100 years, the current policing will have to be in the process of changing taking into account what policing will look like next. With all these issues in mind, various initiatives have been taken in the last one hundred days to achieve short and long term goals.


Dr. Benazir Ahmed said that it is important to take a tough stand against drugs, corruption and oppression paying more attention to the welfare and discipline of the police members and to keep the police at the doorstep of the people. Police will be also playing an effective role in the implementation of vision 2041.


We all need to work together to make a change, the IGP said. This change must be a meaningful change. As a result, the country will be benefitted as well as the people will be benefitted.


We have fixed a lot of targets in the last 100 days, he said. In order to achieve this target, everyone has to work together.


Notable activities undertaken in the last 100 days include free from the harassment of passport verification and corruption. Establishment of Intelligence based Industrial Police, construction of National Emergency Service 999 Building, Separate Recruitment for APBN and SPBN, establishment of DNA Database Bank at CID, Highway Police stations at reasonable distance and setting up of outposts, acquisition of land for setting up of naval police outposts, setting up of four naval police camps in Sundarbans, expediting construction of PBI complex, proposal for formation of Police Medical Services, setting up of Dhaka Divisional Police Hospital, transformation of Central Police Hospital into specialized hospital, International standard training for tourist police, introduction of monthly performance reports for Police officers, establishment of Modern Digitalized Control Rooms at Police Headquarters, ensuring maximum utilization of limited resources, formulation of police guidelines for public works, Introduction of small arms use in duty, refresher training of officers and forces establishment of three new training centers at Barisal, Jamalpur and Gopalganj including women's training centers at Gopalganj. Feasibility study of setting up of eight residential schools for police children in eight divisional towns, etc.


Calling time a flowing river, the IGP said time would not wait for anyone. We can use time wisely, but we can also misuse it. No matter how we use time, time will not sit idle. So at the right time we have to make the right decision. What we are doing is for the country, for the people, for the police, he said.


The IGP called upon all and said, let us get acquainted with the people of the country through our work, get acquainted with our skills, get to know the people with love. We dedicate ourselves for the welfare of the people.
