Fake mask: Sharmin suspended by DU authorities

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have suspended Mosammat Sharmin Jahan from the post of Assistant Registrar for allegedly supplying fake masks to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College University (BSMMU).

This information was given in a press release sent from the public relations office of the university on Sunday (July 26).

The notification sent from the Public Relations Department said that while the Assistant Registrar of Dhaka University Mosammat Sharmin Jahan was running a business without the permission of the authorities staying on educational leave was against the rules and regulations of the university. Moreover, she has tarnished the image and reputation of the university by supplying fake N-95 mask to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University(BSMMU) who filed regular cases against her and being in police remand.

Besides, Sharmin Jahan has been suspended from her job and a notice has been issued within the next 7 (seven) working days to show cause.

Earlier on June 27, Sharmin-owned Aparajita International received an order to supply 11,000 N-95 masks to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital. Later, the Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested Sharmin from Shahbagh area on Friday night on charges of supplying fake N-95 masks. BSMMU authorities filed a case against her on Thursday. Sharmin Jahan is currently in remand in this case.

By the way, Sharmin Jahan, who is in charge of Assistant Registrar of Dhaka University, has been on education leave since 2016. Her education leave period is not over yet. While she was in Wuhan of China, she started a company called Aparajita International in March 2019.
