Naryanganj: Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker, an independent mayoral candidate in the Narayanganj City Corporation(NCC) election, said that Taimur Alam Khandaker is not in a position to walk with the support of Shamim Osman yet. Those who are with me are enough for me. Mr. SM Akram has already made a change once. I do not need the support of the Osman family.
He made the remarks at an exchange of views with journalists at the city's Masdair auditorium on Sunday (January 9) afternoon.
Regarding the support of the party, Taimur Alam Khandaker said, BNP is not outside the people. BNP men pay holding tax. They also suffer from water logging. Those who do BNP are also citizens of this city. Those who are sitting on the stage today are all BNP leaders.
Regarding the Awami League controversy, Taimur said, "People think BNP is united and Awami League is divided." I also talked to my party's metropolitan president today. He can't even get involved in his son's election campaign. He is physically ill. Mamun Mahmud cannot come as there is a case against him filed by Hefazat. That is why they cannot come.
He said that a political party has different strategies at different times. Different strategies have to be adopted at different times. The BNP secretary general has said that the BNP will not hold elections as a party. However, the party has no objection to the election.
He further said that if the election is tainted by using power then the image of the Prime Minister will be tarnished the most.
