He said, they did not leave open the way of compromise. Caretaker government is a dead issue. Their one-point demand is the resignation of the Prime Minister, the dissolution of the Parliament, the abolition of the Election Commission. How to compromise between these demands?
He said this while talking to reporters after the meeting with the US pre-election observation delegation that arrived in Bangladesh on Monday (October 9) afternoon.
He also said that they actually wanted to know our electoral attitude, wanted to know about the environment. What kind of election do we want - he wanted to know about these things. They did not come to mediate.
The General Secretary of Awami League said that the delegation told us that they did not come to meditate on any issue. We have also said, we are committed to the nation to have a free and fair election. That's how we work.
He said their conversation seemed positive. It didn't seem like they had taken any side.
Awami League General Secretary said, a delegation of 12 members of the US had a meeting with us. We made our position clear to them. The challenges of democracy have been discussed.
He said, we have informed the representatives of the Prime Minister's commitment to the nation to conduct free, fair and impartial elections.
The party's general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader led the meeting on behalf of Awami League.
The other members of the Awami League delegation were Awami League Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel Retired Muhammad Farooq Khan, International Affairs Secretary Dr. Shammi Ahmed, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Dr. Salim Mahmud and Executive Committee Member Muhammad Ali Arafat.
A delegation headed by Maria Chin bint Abdullah participated in the meeting on behalf of the United States.
Earlier on Saturday, this pre-election observer delegation of the United States reached Dhaka.
They officially started working from Sunday (October 8). On the third day of the visit, this delegation held a meeting with the BNP and then with the Awami League on Monday morning.
It is known that the members of the delegation reached Dhaka in two parts, Saturday afternoon and night. The delegation consists of seven members
The delegation will visit Bangladesh from October 7 to 13. The US-funded International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) will conduct the Joint Pre-Election Assessment Mission (PEAM) independently and impartially in accordance with the NDI's policy declaration for international observers.
The delegation will hold meetings with political parties, election commission, government agencies, foreign diplomats, civil society, media and other organizations during their stay in Dhaka for a week.
