The BNP and like-minded parties have called for a hartal on November 19 and 20, rejecting the schedule for the 12th JS elections.
The hartal was announced by BNP on Wednesday (November 15) evening.
Earlier Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the 12th JS elections.
In his speech, CEC said that the polling for the parliamentary elections will be held on January 7. Scrutiny of nomination papers from 1st to 4th December. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. Allotment of symbols will be on 18th December.
This is the first time candidates can submit nomination papers online. For this, online nomination system has been created. App called 'Smart Election Management BD' and Online Nomination Submission System (ONSS) launched.
Meanwhile, the EC published the final voter list for the 12th parliamentary elections. Current total voters in the country are 11 crore 96 lakh 91 thousand 633 people. Among the total voters, male voters are 6 crore 7 lakh 71 thousand 579 people and female voters are 5 crore 89 lakh 19 thousand 202 people. And 852 voters of the third sex.
Amidst the announcement of the schedule, strict security arrangements have been made in various parts of the country, including in front of and around the election building.
