Member of the BNP standing committee Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan said, under the circumstances in which the Election Commission has announced the schedule, it is very clear that they have reflected the will of the government. The announcement of the schedule without paying any attention to the opposition political parties proves that this Awami government is electing to steamroll the opposition in a one-party election.

He said this to Barta24.com in an immediate reaction after the election schedule was announced. When asked whether there is a possibility of dialogue, Moyeen Khan said, "We have seen several examples of changing the date of the election after the announcement of the schedule." I have also seen examples of complete cancellation of an election after announcing such a schedule. Obviously both politics and the upcoming elections in Bangladesh are still in a very fluid state. Time will tell in which direction the democracy of Bangladesh is going.

Dr. Khan said it goes without saying that the government may continue its one-party rule by using brute force without showing the least respect for democratic norms and practices. But by depriving the people of Bangladesh of their right to vote, they will never reach their hearts, the democracy for which the people of this country sacrificed millions of lives in the liberation war, and which is now dead in Bangladesh.
