Mohammad Mohibur Rahman Bulbul took part in the 12th parliamentary election on behalf of the Bangladesh Congress. He contested from the Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) constituency. But only 24 voters voted for Bulbul. Which is less than 0.04 percent of the votes cast in that constituency.
The fate of Sheikh Zulfikar Bulbul Chowdhury, who was contested from the Chattogram-1 (Mirsarai) constituency, did slightly better. The Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) candidate got 46 votes with the symbol 'Panja' (hand).
A total of 1 lakh 45 thousand 62 votes were cast in this constituency. As such, Zulfiqar's vote was a little more than 0.03 percent of the votes cast.
Not only these two candidates, 12 of the candidates who participated in the election in different seats of Chattogram did not even get 100 votes. A total of 125 candidates took part in 16 seats in Chattogram. Among them, about 10 percent of the candidates received less than 100 votes.
The 30 candidates in Chittagong got less than 200 votes in this election.
Talking to various voters in the seats of candidates who got less than 200 votes, it was learned that none of them wanted to 'waste' votes by voting mainly because of unknown candidates, being isolated from the public.
Voters say that many of these candidates who get fewer votes become candidates when the election comes. But they have no position on the ground. They do not see any initiative to build public relations. They are not seen throughout the year, even in the election field. They weren't even on the poster. So in what hope will we vote for the candidates of these parties?
