General Secretary of Awami League, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has commented that the voter turnout has decreased due to the false propaganda of like-minded people including BNP and popular intellectuals.

He said this in a press conference at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi of the capital on Tuesday (21 May) afternoon.

Obaidul Quader said, BNP and like-minded people's endless lies create confusion among people. TIB has disinformation. There are some other famous intellectuals, they also spread falsehood and misrepresented people's interest in voting.

He said that it cannot be said that the local government elections in the neighboring countries of India, West Bengal and Bangladesh are peaceful. There are some clashes, loss of life.

Awami League General Secretary said, if voters did not come to the center, it is a local election; the voter turnout in the national election on January 7 was 42 percent. I will tell the BNP leaders that in the February 15 election, the BBC said that 5 percent of the votes were cast. Election Commission told 21 percent. If you get 21 percent in your national election, why is it less than 30 percent?

He also said, I will not call this vote very good. I'd say it's pretty good. I think there is no need to say much about the current situation.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi, Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Secretary  Ashim Kumar Ukil, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsun Nahar Champa were present.
