A preparatory committee has been formed for the upcoming national congress of Awami Jubo League(AJL) with Chayan Islam as the convener and Harun –or- Rashid as the member secretary.
After relieving the 71 year old president of AJL Omar Faruqh Chowdhury from the prime post for violating the party disciplines Chayan Islam, an ex MP was made convener. Thus Chayan Islam has become the center point of attention.
It is learnt that Chayan Islam who is the son of former Vice Chancellor Rajshahi University Dr. Mazharul Islam hailing from Nabipur village of Shahjadpur upazilla under Sirajganj district lives in the upazilla town with family.
Chayan Islam was the general secretary of Shahajadpur thana Awami League in 1977. Next he became presidium member of central AJL. He has been presidium memberof AJL for the last two decades. He was elected MP in 2008 with ‘Boat’ symbol.
His father Dr. Mazharul Islam was also DG of Bangla Academy. His first uncle Dr. Abdul Khaleque was also VC of Rajshahi University as well as the member of the central advisory committee of Awami League. His sister Merina Akhtar Kabita is the member of Awami League central committee.
Chayan Islam studied in Rabindra Bharati University. His wife Lily Islam is a renowned Tagore snger. She was also a student of Shanti Niketon. She was awarded PhD on Tagore song.
Speaking on Chayan Islam former Vice President of BCL, an inhabitant of Sirajganj, Imtiaj Bulbul Bappi told barta24.com that Chayan comes of a very respectable, polished and sincere Awami Politics family. Bappi said that our prime leader Sheikh Hasina has selected the right person to recover the image of AJL which has lost the glorious image due to some controversial elements.
Chayan Islam said that before getting any bigger responsibility I like to make the ensuing congress of AJL successful. I like to work to recover the lost image of AJL.
