All preparations have been completed to bring back the Bangladeshis trapped in Sudan. Bangladeshis will be brought to the Port of Sudan from Khartoum on May 2. From there they will be taken to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The matter was confirmed through a notification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.
It is known that the Bangladeshis will be brought to the Port of Sudan from Khartoum on May 2. 12 buses have been hired for this purpose. About 600 people can come in these buses. The Saudi government will arrange for free Saudi Navy ships to transport from Port Sudan to Port Jeddah.
If no untoward incident happens, these Bangladeshis are expected to reach Jeddah by May 3 or 4. Food, drinks, medicine and temporary accommodation have been arranged for Sudanese expatriates in two Bangladesh schools in Jeddah. After traveling from Khartoum to Port Sudan for about 12 hours, all preparations have been made keeping in mind that expatriates do not have any physical problems. From the day they reach Jeddah, the process of bringing them back to Dhaka by Bangladesh Biman special flight will be started.
There are about 1500 Bangladeshis in Sudan. About 700 Bangladeshi nationals have registered to return from Sudan. The government is trying to bring them back to the country. For that purpose, the help of Sudan's neighboring country Saudi Arabia has been sought. Saudi Arabia is also ready to provide assistance in this regard.
Meanwhile, in a statement on Saturday, the spokesperson of the ministry, Sehli Sabreen, said that the stranded Bangladeshis will first be brought from Khartoum to Port Sudan and from there to Port Jeddah. Arrangements are being made to bring them to Dhaka on a few Bangladesh Biman flights from Jeddah.
It is said that Bangladesh's acting ambassador to Sudan is currently staying at Port Sudan to complete all preparations.
