The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Bangladesh ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan from all types of cricket for two years, including one year of suspension, on three charges.

The global cricket regulator said in a media release on Tuesday that Shakib, the current Test and T20I captain of Bangladesh national team, accepted the charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

After hearing the news of the ban, Shakib said, “It’s very unfortunate for me. I love this sport. I’ve, however, accepted the punished I’ve been given.”

Cricket experts said there is a scope for Shakib to have the punishment commuted through good behavior in the first year of the ban. If the ICC is satisfied with his behaviour, it can cut down the ban by one year, they said.

In the case of reducing the ban period, Shakib may be back to all types of cricket on Oct 29, 2020, they added.

According to ICC, the Bangladeshi cricketer received a match fixing offer from a gambler but rejected the offer. He, however, concealed the matter to ICC Anti-Corruption Code Unit in violation of the code.

Shakib said, “I’ve accepted the punishment I’ve been given for not informing ACCU about the match fixing offer… I couldn’t perform my responsibility at the time.”
