Bangladesh pacer Shahadat Hossain has been banned from all sorts of cricket for five years and fined Tk 500,000 for physically assaulting a teammate during a domestic league match.

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s technical committee chief and national team chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu confirmed the decision to Barta24.com on Tuesday (Nov 19).

“We’re certain after analysing match referee report and other aspects that Shahadat committed offence. He committed a level-4 offence under the cricket law. That’s why the technical committee has decided this punishment,” he said.

“We hope the cricketers will learn a lesson from this punishment and will abstain from committing such offence,” he added.

The five-year ban include a two year suspended ban meaning if Shahadat complies with the BCB rules and regulations strictly in the first three years, the restrictions for the last two years might be withdrawn.

Shahadat will get a chance to appeal against the punishment. He can appeal to the BCB for a review of the punishment.

The pacer assaulted the teammate during a match between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Nov 17.
