Huawei is planning extensive job cuts in the US, the Wall Street Journal has reported, citing anonymous sources.

The US Commerce Department added Huawei to its "entity list" in May, a move that bans the company from acquiring technology from US firms without government approval.

Even though US President Donald Trump has since said he would allow US companies to continue to sell to the Chinese tech giant, it is unclear when and how this will happen.

Meanwhile, Reuters has reported that the US may approve licenses for firms to re-start selling to Huawei within two weeks, citing a senior US official.

Huawei has long said it is independent from the Chinese government with some Western countries concerned its products pose a national security risk.

China's tech giant Huawei has shut down its solar energy business in the US, the Financial Times reported citing anonymous sources.

The FT said the company confirmed it had cut jobs in the US but did not confirm which parts of the business were affected.

It comes as the company faces increasing international scrutiny with many countries concerned it poses a national security risk.

The US, which has encouraged allies to shun Huawei products, blacklisted the company in May.
