'MP elect of Gonoforum and BNP took oath of their own'
Dhaka (Barta24.com): Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina said that the MPs elect of Gonoforum and BNP have taken oath of their own while there was no pressure on them from the government side.
Addressing a press conference held at the Gonobhavan on her Brunei visit Sheikh Hasina on Friday (April 26) said this in reply to questions of the pressmen.
Sheikh Hasina said the people’s representatives who took oath had no pressure of the government on them. Why we will give them pressure. Rather they earlier told on many occasions that the people of their constituency were creating pressure on them so that they can speak in the parliament about the problems and development of their area. So definitely they did it voluntarily to become true representatives of the people.
In the 11th parliamentary election held on last December 30, BNP candidate Zahidur Rahman was elected from Thakurgaon -3 who after a long gap finally took oath on Thursday (April 25). But BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented on Friday that Zahidur Rahman took oath at the pressure of the government. Earlier Md. Mokabbir Khan and Sultan Mohammad Mansur of Gonoforum also took oath as MP.
Sheikh Hasina rejected the contentions of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The Prime Minister further said that some has to apply to the government for getting release on parole. But no one applied for it so we have nothing to do in this matter, she commented.
She further said that we did not arrest her political reason but she has been convicted for corruption. Again the very case, she is convicted we did not file that. The case was filed during the care taker government rule. The case continued for ten years then the court gave the verdict of her conviction.
Foreign Minister Dr. A.K Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriyar Alam were also present in the press conference.
