Controversial police cop placed under suspension
Dhaka, (Barta24.com): The controversial and most talked about Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman was suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On Tuesday(June25) a notification to this effect was issued from the Security division of the Home Ministry. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has confirmed the matter to Barta24.com.
Recently DIG Mizan had given bribe of Taka 40 lakh to an officer of Anti-Corruption Commission(ACC) to get rid of the charges of corruption brought against him. A countrywide storm of criticism ensued when the matter of bribe came to light.
Various organizations and quarters including Transparency International Bangladesh(TIB) strongly lauded their voice against the bribe receiver and bribe offering person. Police started investigation about the bribe of DIG Mizanur Rahman.
Police Headquarter formed a high powered probe committee on last June 17 to investigate the allegation. Additional Inspector General of Police Dr. Moinur Rahman Chowdhury(Admin & Operation) was made the head of the probe committee.
The other two members of the probe committee were Additional Inspector General of Police (Finance & Development) Shahabuddin Qureshi and Police Bureau of Investigation(PBI) police super Mia Masud Hossain.
The committee had started investigation about the location of Mizan’s bribe money and what were the sources of his bribe money. The step of suspension came on the basis of the report of the probe committee.
