Preparations on for repatriating Rohingyas on August 22
Cox’s Bazar: At last Myanmar will take back a few numbers of Rohingyas from Bangladesh. Accordingly preparations are going on at Keruntali repatriation ghat of Teknaf and Nayapara Shalban camp. News agency Reuters said that a group of 3540 Rohingyas will return to Myanmar from Bangladesh on August 22. After such announcement of Myanmar government this preparation is being taken.
While visiting the area on Saturday (August 17) it was seen that few laborers were working at Keruntali repatriation ghat. At that time a group of people were supervising the preparation regarding repatriation.
Laborers Hamidur Rahman and Md. Selim informed barta24.com that from here the Rohingyas are supposed to repatriate. So at the instruction of camp- in -charge the repatriation ghats are being cleaned. Besides, the officials have been supervising regularly.
Md. Shahid, representative of Repatriation Commissioner told barta24.com that through this ghat the Rohingyas are supposed to return to Myanmar. So at the instruction of the authority the cleaning and other related works are going on.
On duty Ansar Battalion 16 Habildar Md. Aynul Haque told barta24.com that the preparation work for repatriation of Rohingyas are going here for few days. We are helping them. We have heard that within few days the Rohingyas will go back to Myanmar.
On the other hand on the same day at Nayapara Shalban Rohingya camp by the side of CIC office some small sized plastic sheds are being constructed for taking interview of the listed Rohingyas who will go back. A number of Rohingya laborers are working there.
Camp Chairman Ramida Begum told barta24.com, to talk with the returnee Rohingyas these sheds were constructed. We heard that after talking with them the Rohingyas will go back Myanmar.
However the Relief & Repatriation Commissioner of Rohingya Refugees (RRC) Md. Abul Kalam told barta24.com that the government is trying to send back the Rohingyas. But we are not aware when the repatriation will begin.
He further said that on Sunday (August 18) an emergency meeting of the district administration and RRC officials will be held regarding the repatriation program.
It may be mentioned here that on November 15 of last year due to the protests of the Rohingyas, the repatriation program could no be started. At that time the Keruntali (Nayapara) repatriation ghat situated at Ghumdhum on the bank of Naf river of Teknaf was built. The ghat has long wooden jetty, 33 semi –tin sheds and four toilets were constructed. The members of Ansar battalion 16 are on duty there.
