US President Donald Trump will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Joe Biden. Joe Biden will be sworn in as US President on January 20.
Trump made the remarks in a tweet on Friday, hours after promising to hand over power peacefully.
"I told those who asked me about the January 20 ceremony, I will not go to the swearing-in ceremony," he tweeted.
On Wednesday (January 6), the United States faced the worst situation in its history. At the instigation of current President Donald Trump, his supporters stormed the Capitol Hill building during a congressional session. Five people, including a policeman, were killed in the attack. Demands to oust Trump have been strong since the incident.
However, shortly after the attack on the Capitol, Donald Trump promised a peaceful transfer of power on January 20.
In a video clip, Trump said a new administration would take office on January 20. His vision now is for an orderly and smooth transfer of power.
